Tutoring
CREDENTIALS: I am an English teacher at Tenafly High School in Tenafly, New Jersey. (Go Tigers!) I hold an M.S. Ed from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, which is ranked as the #1 education school in the country by U.S. News and World Report. (Go Quakers!) I am also a published writer, having written on art, design, and film for Architizer, Galerie Magazine, and more. This year, one of my pieces was featured in a best-selling college textbook, The Norton Field Guide to Writing.
PHILOSOPHY: I take an individualized approach to tutoring, designing my lessons around student needs and interests. Each course begins with a diagnostic exercise, in which I assess the student’s strengths and weaknesses. From there, all lessons are designed to target these identified areas of need. Students know where to focus their energy for optimal results.
Package #1: Editing your College Admission Essay — or Any Other Piece of Writing
This isn’t really a tutoting package, but it is a learning experience. For a one-time fee of $50, I will:
Edit any piece of writing under 2,000 words.
Provide detailed feedback on the style, structure, and voice of the piece and examples of how to improve these elements.
Use track changes and comments extensively. My feedback is clear and easy to implement.
If you feel the first round of edits are not enough, just let me know and I will provide additional suggestions at no extra cost.
Package #2: Cracking the College Admission Essay
This package includes:
Revisions and feedback on multiple drafts from the instructor.
General support through each step of the application process, from researching schools to resume building and beyond.
Personalized reading recommendations and writing activities to help the student discover their authentic authorial voice.
The opportunity to gain feedback on their essay from peers in a “reader’s workshop” model. Students will have the opportunity to find inspiration in other student essays.
Hourly Lessons, In-Person or via Zoom.
Revisions and Comments: Included. Completed before the lesson.
Package #3: Personalized SAT and ACT Prep
Most SAT and ACT courses are optimized for the general student, not the individual and their particular needs. What I offer instead is a bespoke service. You won’t waste time going over what “most students” struggle with — you will only focus on the issues that you personally need to address. This package includes:
A diagnostic test and full report, identifying the skills and concepts the student struggles with most on the Reading and Writing sections of the SAT or ACT. The diagnostic test tells the student why they are receiving the results they are, and what they need to focus on to improve their score.
Lessons tailored to the student’s unique needs as identified in the diagnostic test.
A guarantee that the student will improve their score. If they do not, they will receive a full refund.
Diagnostic Report incurs a separate cost to the hourly tutoring rate.
*This report is for either the SAT or ACT. If one wishes to order both diagnostic tests, the second is half price.
**Please note, while my expertise is in English, I am also able to help students with the Math and Science sections of standardized tests.
Package #4: General Academic Support
High school and college students face numerous challenges in the classroom. With this package, I will meet with you regularly to help you prepare for upcoming assessments. Lessons will be tailored to your specific needs and in the process you will learn how to approach your courses proactively. My goal is for students to become self-sufficent, independent learners able to approach new challenges with confidence.
Hourly Lesson, In-Person or via Zoom.
